Several states have announced school holidays on Wednesday, August 27, due to different reasons ranging from heavy rainfall to festivals. While Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh have ordered closures because of severe weather conditions, schools in states like Maharashtra and Karnataka will remain shut on account of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Jammu And Kashmir

In Jammu division, all government and private schools will stay closed on August 27 for the third consecutive day. Authorities said the decision was taken due to continuous heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions. The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, has issued an order asking students and teachers not to attend classes or step out amid the severe weather.

Punjab

The Punjab government has declared holidays in all schools, both government and private, from August 27 to 30. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the step was necessary as heavy rains have lashed several parts of the state and the weather department has forecast more downpours in the coming days. Districts such as Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Rupnagar, SBS Nagar, and Fazilka are among the worst hit by flooding.

Himachal Pradesh

In neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, several districts have also ordered school closures as torrential rain continues to disrupt daily life. Local administrations are monitoring the situation closely, with landslides and overflowing rivers adding to the crisis.

The festival, celebrated with great enthusiasm, is a public holiday in these regions and traditionally extends to schools and colleges as well.
